We live in a land of dreams: ‘I Have A Dream’, ‘The American Dream’ - a place that has to be imagined before it can be built.

We find ourselves in a curious and rare moment. It is agreed we stand on the threshold of change - a new page of history ready to be turned, lived, written. In this moment, uncertain of what lay ahead and stirring with hopes, we take the world we know and dream of what will be, what could be, what should be.

For many, this is a new landscape. After years of having a villain to inspire artwork, advocacy, action, criticism; how do we transition from being on the ‘outside’ to our new status on the ‘inside.’  How will artists/activists create work with the same critical passion AND be positive? Hopeful?

Each artist was given the following premise:

‘Rarely do we have the opportunity to conjure up our hopes for our government and our country and have them feel remotely possible. This is one of those moments. With the election results and the current upsurge in political activism, change not only feels possible but probable. So we ask, what does this look like for you? What do you wish for? When you dream of ‘America’ what do you see? The country we want must be thought of first! It is time to think big and lay the ground work for visions to grow into realities.’

The responses vary from visions of policy changes, infrastructure and social progression to personal hopes of family, the surrealist sensation of dreaming and what it means to have hope. Some may come to pass and some may not, but for now all we can do is dream.
